I knew nothing about this book, until my friends housemate started raving about it.A few months later, killing time waiting for a plane (airport bookshops are dangerous) I saw a pile and made an impulse purchase. It looked suitably thick and threatening.(Ah, the joyful days before they started weighing bags after duty free..)Imagine Jane Austen and Charles Dickens teamed up to write a Harry Potter book, with Neil Gaiman dropping in now and again for tea.  So gutted the film projects been dropped. I think New Line would have done an awesome job if they hadn’t gone bust..

I picked this up recently upon the recommendation of a lovely girl at my local bookshop but I think the line I bolded above might just have pushed it to the top of my to read list. That sounds SPECTACULAR.
